Fenna Willems asks questions for a living, and she is very hard to lie to. Her midweek show on Network Radio mixes music with actual conversation: musicians, venue owners, the woman who has booked the same small stage in Rotterdam for twenty years. She lets people finish their sentences, which turns out to be rare.
She came to radio from local journalism, where she spent years writing about city council meetings nobody read about. Radio gave her something print never did, which is the sound of someone hesitating before they answer. Fenna builds her whole show around those moments.
She plays what her guests bring in, so her playlists swing hard between genres. One hour it is Dutch indie, the next it is a Turkish psych record somebody's father owned. She has stopped apologising for it.
Midweek evenings, with the kettle on.
