Annelies Smit has the Sunday slot on Network Radio, and she uses it the way Sundays are supposed to be used: slowly. Her show is built for people who are not in a hurry, and she has never once pretended otherwise.
She spent most of her career in music libraries and archives, cataloguing recordings that almost nobody requested. That work gave her a memory for records that borders on unreasonable. Ask her about a B-side from 1974 and she will tell you who played bass on it, then play it for you.
Her show moves through soul, folk, old jazz and whatever else has earned its place. She talks between tracks, but not much, and usually only because a song has a story worth knowing. Listeners keep writing in to say they found something on her show they had been looking for since they were young.
Sunday afternoons, no rush.
