Friday night in the late slot is a different animal, and Friday Night Takeoff treats it that way. Thijs Bakker opens around midnight with something still fairly calm, then spends the next three hours gradually lifting the tempo: downtempo into slow house, slow house into deeper grooves, and by half past two something you can actually move to.
Some listeners catch this show on the way home from a night out. Others are only just getting started, and a few are working straight through it. The build is designed to make sense for all three without ever snapping from one mood into another. Records get room to run, transitions are long rather than sharp, and there are no jingles crashing in every ten minutes.
Consider it the release valve at the end of the week. Friday Night Takeoff airs every Friday from 00:00 to 03:00 on Network Radio.
